The Life360 GPS Pet Tracker is a compact, real-time location tracker for pets introduced in late 2025. About the size of a key fob, this lightweight device attaches to any collar and leverages Life360’s family tracking platform. It provides live GPS tracking, geofencing alerts, and even a built-in LED light and beeper to help locate your pet in the dark. The tracker integrates seamlessly with the Life360 smartphone app – your pet appears as a family member on your map, and all Circle members (e.g. family) can see the pet’s location in real time.
Build & Design: The tracker is small and durable, rated IP68 waterproof and shock-resistant to handle pets’ rough play. It weighs only ~34 grams, so even cats or small dogs can wear it comfortably (one tester’s 5.9 kg dog didn’t mind it at all). There’s a single button and a USB-C charging port protected by a rubber seal. Battery life is about 10–14 days per charge under typical use – impressively long compared to many competitors. However, heavy use (constant movement outside safe zones) can drain it faster; for example, if your pet wanders out of Wi-Fi range for days, battery life may drop to ~3–4 days. The device can conserve power by switching to Bluetooth/Wi-Fi when your pet is at home, then ramping up GPS usage when they roam. Life360 thoughtfully included a low-power reserve mode – even if the main charge depletes, a backup mode can maintain intermittent location pings for up to 6 months, helping in recovery scenarios.
Features: This tracker shines in keeping pets safe. Through the app, you can set up geofenced “Safe Zones” (like home or yard) and get an instant alert if your pet leaves or returns to those areas. In an escape situation, activating “Escaped Pet Mode” will ping your whole family Circle with notifications, flash the tracker’s light and sound the buzzer to make your pet more noticeable. Uniquely, Life360 taps into its large user network: if your pet is truly lost, you can mark them as lost and the system will notify other Life360 users nearby to passively help locate the tracker (similar to Tile’s crowd-sourced finding). This community locating feature is a big advantage in recovering a runaway pet. Additionally, the device’s LED light and audio chirp can be toggled via the app – useful for finding a hiding cat under the porch or a dog in your backyard at night.
Usability: Getting started is straightforward. The tracker pairs with the Life360 app (available on iOS/Android) – if you already use Life360 for family tracking, it’s the same interface, now with a pet profile. Setup involves charging the device, holding the button to sync, and adding your pet’s name and photo. Users report the app interface is intuitive; you can watch your pet move on the map with updates every few seconds. Geofence setup and notifications are easy to configure, and alerts reliably arrive within moments of a boundary breach. We found the location accuracy to be within about 30–50 feet in most cases, which is sufficient to pinpoint a pet’s general area (e.g. which yard on the block). The on-device light and sound are handy – in testing, the small speaker’s whistle was audible within a house or small yard, helping locate a “hiding” tracker behind furniture. The device attaches via a silicone collar sleeve that feels secure; our active tester dog didn’t dislodge it even when running through bushes. One downside is that Life360 requires a monthly subscription (Gold $14.99/mo or Platinum $24.99/mo) for full functionality – this covers the cellular data and premium features like unlimited location history. If you already have Life360 for your family, adding a pet is included at the Gold tier and above.
Reliability & Alerts: In our real-world tests, the Life360 tracker proved reliable. It delivered timely alerts whenever our dog “escaped” the yard, and the live tracking helped us quickly see she was just next door visiting the neighbor’s garden. The battery life held up to the 10-14 day claim when the pet stayed mostly in one area (with Wi-Fi assist). However, be mindful if you board your pet or travel – when our dog stayed at a friend’s (out of range of our home Wi-Fi), the tracker worked continuously on GPS and drained in about 3 days. This means you’ll want to charge it before any extended trip or enable someone at the pet’s location on Life360 to leverage their Wi-Fi. Durability-wise, it’s built tough: our tester pup rolled in mud and even took a quick dip in a kiddie pool; the device survived unscathed (just a bit of moisture near the USB port gasket, but no performance issues). Life360’s infrastructure is robust, as it’s a mature platform – no server hiccups or app crashes were encountered. The main caveats are the subscription cost and the fact that very small pets (under ~5 lbs) or those averse to any collar might not tolerate it, though the weight is minimal.
